Joey King's Real Life Counterpart from 'The Act' Reacts to Her Emmy Nomination!
Joey King won’t be meeting the real life inspiration for her Emmy-nominated The Act character any time soon…or possibly ever.
The 19-year-old actress was nominated for an Emmy for her portrayal of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, a young woman who, after enduring years of medical abuse at the hands of her mother, was convicted of second-degree murder in a plot to kill her mother/abuser.
Gypsy Rose, who is now 27 and serving out her 10-year prison sentence, congratulated Joey for aspects of her performance, but is still critical of the series overall and says she has no interest in meeting the actress.
In a statement to TMZ, Gypsy Rose’s family spokesperson Fancy Micelli said: “Gypsy sincerely congratulates Joey for nailing the role and mastering her look, voice and mannerisms. That being said … Gypsy has ZERO interest in meeting Joey following the Emmy nom because Gypsy is adamant the story line in Hulu’s limited series is inaccurate … and by meeting with her, it would validate the series’ narrative.”
